Firehouse Publications Schools Academy (Just an idea for now...)
Teachers of all subjects generate their own assessments, handouts, worksheets, resources, during their school time.
What if your school could make those resources available for sale GLOBALLY without the need to store or ship books?
Your department, school, and district could reap the rewards in royalties that come right back to your district offsetting tight budgets. As an added bonus, all teachers that participate become published authors, and the reputation of your school grows!
Royalties from books become an incentive for staff with a royalty sharing program. As a district, you would decide what portion of profits would be attractive to teachers to participate, and benefit the school. We find that a 50/50 split of profits encourages participants to create the best resources. Though districts often "own" the resources that teachers create during their school time, your teaching professionals would need to format their resources in a cohesive way to make the work "publishable." Royalty sharing ensures they are rewarded for their efforts while the school benefits financially.
We have two ways to make this work for your school.
#1. No cost to the district: We come and give a day long workshop and a follow-up to teach your staff how to collect and create a resource document that we can format and publish as a book through the worldwide Amazon Platform. We will be available online for assistance and offer help guides for simple formatting. Staff can build their own books with Microsoft Word or Google Docs. We earn money through royalties of books that sell at a 50% commission, leaving the school 50% to divide as they see fit, paid annually with a full accounting of all books sold. Considering that most publishers pay authors just 5% to 15% annual royalties, this is generous, and completely risk-free. The district, teachers, and students, can purchase books at 50% off the retail price should that be desired via a discount code we will set up for you. Books can be updated annually should that be desired.**
#2. We teach your school how to BECOME a publisher. $8,000 plus travel expenses to give two full day workshops, one to staff, and another to your 2 publishing coordinators, and a follow-up to ensure they format their documents correctly. We will set up an account for you, and train up to 2 employees (Publishing Coordinators) on how to upload and publish books for your staff. Your books will be available through the worldwide Amazon Platform, and your school earns 100% of royalties to divide as they see fit, and can buy books at printing costs ($3 to $4 each). We will be available online for assistance and offer help guides for simple formatting. Staff can build their own books with Microsoft Word or Google Docs. Annual re-training, if desired, is $1000 per day plus travel expenses. It is more probable that staff can re-train themselves after going through the process. Books can be updated at any time. (The fee is based on $100 per staff member, with the highest fee being $10,000 for a staff larger than 100 people)
#2B. We can offer reduced rates for schools that have less than 300 students, and small schools that serve unique populations like disabled students, refugee children, and other underserved communities. Please ask us directly sharing your situation candidly via the "contact us" link.** (We base our fee at $100 per staff member to be trained.)
**We cannot take on too many schools at any one time, so our services are available on a limited basis but may expand should interest increase.
***We do not work with districts that do not offer some kind of profit sharing with their staff.

Firehouse Publications Schools Academy
Teacher F.A.Q.
Q. I can do this on my own, why should I participate?
A. You could, but do you? If so, Bravo! Our workshop will give you a ton of additional ideas you can use to expand your library of resources and platforms you can sell them on. For most teachers though our service offers step by step help. Once you learn it, you can apply this information to publish additional resources you have been dreaming to create. Some educators sell their resources through sites like "Teachers Pay Teachers." Amazon's global reach offers higher royalties, and a trusted platform. We will be available to field questions and help you through the process.
Q: I already do too much work. How much time is this going to take?
A. We expect that any school that participates in this program offer voluntary participation. Our approach is to help you organize your materials into one large WORD document (Or other platform). We find it is best to spread the work over a semester or a whole school year. You keep the document on your computer desktop, and as you teach, you add your resources to that document, and it grows as you teach by simply copying and pasting into that document. You can divide the document into different modes: Assessments, Handouts, Projects, etc. ALL this work can be done in your normal prep time. You're just copying and pasting your routine documents into one larger document which will become a book.
