Art Teacher Review: "This guidebook is exceptional, and belongs in every art teacher’s collection of go-to reference books. There are so many superb elements: high quality feel, high quality content, colorful, and easy to read. Every single page packs a punch of greatness. The thing that stands out the most is that I can actually read entire paragraphs without having to stop everything in order to decipher and isolate the important information. Meaning, the main ideas pop out of the paragraphs in an at-a-glance format, while still informing the reader with key details. Perfect for us busy educators, who need information (and solutions) quickly! Every word in this book counts. Uncomplicated and unpretentious. Beautiful layout. I highly recommend this book as essential." ~Brenda Pace

This FULL COLOR book contains fifty differentiated art lessons for K-12 students, with extensions for advanced classes. Many include links within lessons that will connect to mini-video tutorials. Most explorations in his book can be done with different kinds of media. Don't have oil pastels? Use crayons, colored pencils, or just about any drawing media. Taking a drawing project and re-tooling it to be a painting lesson is often possible. Use what you have on hand.
These are lessons I have developed over my thirty-year art teaching career. I specifically chose these fifty, because the root of each can be simplified for younger or special needs students, and beefed up for the more advanced. This book ends with critique worksheets, grading rubrics, classroom resources, and enough single-day sub plans for 25 absences! For 30% off $44.95 retail price, use the Paypal link below. USA ONLY.

This book contains 20 benchmark exams. "SLO/SGO." They have been pulled from our books "Art Assessments" and "The Advanced Art Teacher's Workbook" as there was a desire from readers to just purchase the exams without the supporting materials. There are several versions of each labeled a, b, c, d. "A" is more simplified and progress, becoming more challenging. "D" would be acceptable for your most advanced students.
They are designed to show student growth with simple performance-based assessments building up to more detailed ones. If your school requires an SGO or SLO, (a "test" to prove growth) the second (#2) and last exam (#5) are used to illustrate annual student progress and are labeled as "evaluations." The others, labeled "assessments," are meant to give the instructor a sense of how well students are understanding general vocabulary and its practical use. Comes with the rights to make copies for your students! |

Art can be a great means for students to get a deeper grasp on their subjects and the connections between courses. Research shows that students who take art succeed at higher rates than those who do not. In the U.S., art students score, on average, 100 points higher on their SATs. In my own district, using my methods, our students scored 155 points higher on average than students who did not take art in 2013. If your school is STEAM focused, this is the book for you! The Classically Inspired Sketchbook:
(Grades 4 and up) This book allows the purchaser to make copies for their students or personal use. This book was created as a collaboration between an art teacher who is an author, and an English teacher who loves art. Illustration and verse have long been great partners; one cannot survive without the other. We present these classical poems to be explored and illustrated, giving them new life. From Shakespeare to Louis Carroll and many in-between, no one should go through life without being exposed to these timeless works of poetry. Though this book was written with art teachers in mind, it will be a valuable resource for English, literature, and history teachers as well. A short blurb about each author appears on the back of each page with space to write an interpretation of the poetry. This combination of art, history, literature, writing, interpretation, and illustration becomes a powerful educational tool attaining the highest levels |
The Inspirational Sketchbook:
(Grades 4 and up) This book allows the purchaser to make copies for their students or personal use. Art mixes with literature as we create illustrations for famous quotes on art by some of the most names throughout history like Einstein, Picasso, O'Keeffe, and Queen Victoria to name but a few. Read, interpret, and learn; a deeply interdisciplinary approach and supplement to an art education program or for personal growth. A short blurb about the author of each quote appears on the back of each page with space to write an interpretation on what the author meant. There is also space for readers and students to explore more about the author of each quote. This combination of art, history, literature, writing, interpretation, and illustration becomes a powerful educational tool attaining the highest levels of learning on Bloom’s Taxonomy; analyze, evaluate, and create. |

This is a sketchbook… and it's nearly empty...
Each page has a suggestion at the bottom of the page for a drawing project right above. The back of each page is left black so inks that bleed will not ruin the following page. If you use permanent marker you may wish to slip in another sheet of paper to prevent deep bleeding of inks to later pages. Teachers can cut the spine of the book to make an "I'm Done" bin for early finishers. Students read the prompt and draw on the same page. Pages can be copied and used for sub plans. Artists may find that this book inspires many ideas and offers a fresh perspective. Teachers should feel free to cut the spine of this book and use these pages as hand-outs in a bin for when students complete regular project work too early and need something of quality to keep busy. Many of these concepts may spur on others for larger projects. |

This edition (Updated with culture connections in 2018) is written for elementary grades six and under, and includes 26 lesson ideas, with additional space for sketching and planning projects. It is a great way for children to explore the foundations of expressionism.
It’s easy to say you love someone or dislike something. You can even draw things to help people understand these feelings, like a heart or a frowning face. But artists can say the same thing with colors and shapes. It’s like a secret language, a code that is very easy to understand once you know how. Why do you think nearly every country uses the color red on their stop signs? There is a good reason. Why are many toys made from circles? You already use the ideas of color and shape in your everyday life. Everybody does. We just need to learn to use these ideas to show our feelings when we make art. This book will help you explore these ideas and use them to create art with secrets within them. We call that expressionism. With these ideas you can paint a face and use color to show how you feel about that person. You could also paint a face of a person and not even draw the eyes, nose, and mouth. By using colors and shapes that show what the person is like, we can say something about that person visually. |
